During the month of April, our team at uxdesign.cc have shifted our focus to researching, learning and writing about Diversity in Design. Here’s a collection of useful resources that have helped us along the way.

re·flec·tion: serious thought or consideration; an idea about something, especially one that is written down or expressed.

As designers, we spend most of our day imagining and building experiences that, when added up, take a big portion of people’s days and affect a lot the relationships they have with other people and with the world around them.
We design sign up forms that ask people to define their ethnicity. We design profile pages where people define how they want to be seen in the world. We also design online forums, medical forms, services for citizens, social interactions, dating apps, learning platforms — the list is huge.
Aren’t we somehow responsible for more inclusive, diverse experiences?
At the beginning of April Caio Braga and I decided to take a journey through researching, writing and curating content about Diversity and Design — and sharing what we learned along the way.
We have learned quite a lot, to be honest.
Really, a lot.
The idea of editing this series has never been to become experts in Diversity, but we are definitely ending this exercise different than when we started. We feel like we now understand some of the implications and challenges of achieving diversity and equality in our industry, and that we ended up with a pretty actionable list we can incorporate in our routines as designers.
The daily posts have ended, but diversity has definitely become an “official tag” on uxdesign.cc — one of the key topics we write about every week.
Thanks to our authors for the multiple perspectives and points of view: Timothy J. Hykes, Huma Wadood, Jen Heazlewood, Rachel Thomas, Adhithya, Andres Wydler, Elizabeth Grace Becker, Paola Colombo, Kelli Robertson, Bobby Schultz, Maurice Woods, Sabrina Fonseca.
Below you can find the most relevant sources, articles, projects and organizations that inspired us in this journey.
See you in the next post.
